Feeding Our Future
NFSC 431: Foodservice Equipment & Production Systems
Skill Area: Production Systems
Assignment Title: Professional Poster and "Feeding Our Future" Event Display
What I learned: This assignment taught me how to plan for an event and promote a product, while keeping in mind taste, design format, and price of the product. My partner and I took a processed food product and developed a new product that included fresh ingredients. Our goal was to increase nutrients, make it palatable, and pleasing, all while keeping cost down. The end product was displayed and tasted by fellow classmates.
Reflection to assignment: My partner and I had to come together, create various recipes for comparison, purchase the ingredients, and run an official taste test on our friends and family. Meanwhile we took step-by-step pictures of this process to use later on our poster. We used our classmates for an additional taste test to finalize our choice. Cooking with friends and eating with family was the most enjoyable part of this assignment. Plus I now know how to create nutrient dense dishes, post all aspects of the process, and plan for an event.
Relevance to the profession: This assignment prepared me to create nutrient dense dishes, post all aspects of the process, and plan for an event. This includes behind the scenes, what equipment will be needed from cooking, serving, and decoration. Having had worked in catering for 4 years, I can see how this assignment is relevant from initial planning of an event to the end.
